Normally, McBryde is boring with little of interest to the urban explorer. However, one afternoon I got the word that the door to the roof access was unlocked and open. You can bet I dropped what I was doing and hauled ass out there...

On the 6th floor there's a little closet with a steep set of metal stairs going up the the penthouse. Normally this closet is locked, but you can see the stairs through a window in the door. This time the door was open, and I climbed up into the penthouse mechanical room. This room is pitch black, and my mini-maglite didn't really help much. There was some seriously massive ventilation equipment up there that I had to be careful not to hit my head on, a door out to the roof itself, and a door to an elevator room. I opened the door to the elevator room at the same time that one of the elevators started moving, and so got to witness a fearsome display of blue sparks emitted by some of the elevator equipment.

I feel confident saying that the roof of McBryde is (or is pretty close to) the highest point on campus. Considering I was out there during the day, I didn't want to get too close to the edge lest someone see me, but there were some pretty spectacular views. My pictures didn't turn out too great though... Thanks to Trixie, for letting me post the ones she took.
