Shanks is pretty neat... On the basement level, there's a small mechanical room, with access to a really cool crawlspace. The first part of the crawlspace has cement columns, and is under the 1957 addition to the building. From here, a hole in the wall leads into the section of crawlspace under the original 1902 part of the building, "Barracks # 4". In here, there are what can only be described as rubble-filled subterranean dorm rooms. I have to wonder if anytime in the last century they were ever actually used as dorm rooms... The whole crawlspace is full of rubble, like broken bricks and rocks, so boots are highly recommended. There's no steam tunnel access - the pipes come in through a wall - which was somewhat disappointing. There are also a couple of staircase that go nowhere. Well, they go up, but into the roof (or the floor of the first floor, depending on your perspective). Back in the basement hallway, there's a little hiding place under the stairs on the western end of the building, with what looks to be a small door (screwed into the wall, so I couldn't get it open) into another section of the basement.
