Torgerson sub-tunnel

end of the line

Between classes one day, I stopped by the vending machine room of Torgerson to grab a Pepsi and to see if the connected mechanical room was unlocked. Amazingly, it was, and I found myself staring straight down a brightly lit steam tunnel. I had a class I couldn't skip, so I just propped the door open a crack and hoped nobody would close it before I came back later that night. I did come back at 8pm (I wasn't sure what time the building got locked up), with enough study materials to keep me looking not suspicious until the place cleared out and I could explore in peace. Well, SEVEN HOURS later the last person studying on the first floor left, and I got to go in.

The mechanical room is relatively small and quite dark... there were two doors on one wall that had light coming out from underneath - I was afraid they were physical plant offices, but I wasn't about to check and see. There was also a computer terminal that was on and had some stuff typed on the screen like someone had been using it recently. I squeezed myself between a couple of pipes and into the square concrete tunnel. Since Torgerson is Tech's newest building, it makes sense that the tunnel was clean and even looked modern. As you can see from the pictures, it's made from pre-cast concrete sections, much like a storm drain. The tunnel ran north a short ways, then turned west, got smaller, and ended in a solid wall where it hits the main line. In the end, less than ten minutes of exploring wasn't worth the seven hours of studying I ended up doing, but you don't win them all...
